M.L.K. Wasn't the only one
with a Dream!

The Harlem Renaissance was a event in the early 1900's where African American's celebrated their heritage through art, literature, music and political reform. It is due to the Renaissance that white Americans took notice of the talents of blacks for the first time. The Harlem Renaissance was successful in destroying some of the racial stereotypes through these individuals hard work and dedication.

Task 1: Research what was going on in America to cause a renaissance or "rebirth". Use you note packet to record your findings. So who do you want to begin with?
The Activists
or
The Authors

Task 2: After you have your understanding of what was going on and who was leading this renaissance, it is time put the two together.
After looking at the lives and stories of the individuals above, you should know how tough the lives of Black Americans were from the period just after the Civil War all the way to the eventual equality in the law thanks to the Civil Rights era. Now it is time for you to become a activist for change. Please click here for your project assignment

Task 3: After we talk about entertainers and artists as a class, it will be time to take your end of the unit TEST, but it won't be a traditional one. You might want to take a sneak peak and to start getting ideas on what to present.
